Hola, y'all!

Welcome to this space where we're navigating faith, justice, and culture. I'm Sarah, a born and raised Southern girl, who grew up eating grits, playing basketball, and going to church.

Many years ago, I devoured a bunch of Starbucks Frappuccinos and completed a master's degree in sociology. My first book, Love Undocumented: Risking Trust in a Fearful World was published in January 2018. And my writing on immigration, cross-cultural life, and faith has been featured on Christianity Today, Relevant, Sojourners, ChurchLeaders.com, Off the Page, and elsewhere.

My husband Billy emigrated from Guatemala City, and we met and married in Los Angeles. Together, we walked through the complex U.S. immigration system and delightfully enjoy the humor and craziness of a cross-cultural, bilingual relationship.

Our home is in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia, where we try to be good neighbors and friends. During the Spring of 2019, our family lived in Guatemala City, Guatemala, where we launched GreenTec, a job creation initiative that is creating building products from recycled materials.

We have two kids - Gabriella and Isaac - and we are trying our best to raise them bicultural and trilingual-ish. To that end, we speak as much Spanglish as possible at home, and they study Mandarin in school.
